Today began with … drum roll … coffee.
Yeah, nothing new under the sun!
BUT, today is also Easter and, as happens so frequently, I am not home to celebrate with my church. I’m sorry for that, as my family doesn’t celebrate Easter. But I will try to remember He Is Risen! even while no one else with me does.
After having our coffee (and I had a bagel and cream cheese as well … FAR too much food but this is typical on a trip like this) we met up with Kelsey & Mel and headed out on a drive. Rain came and went, but it wasn’t a downpour. We ended up at a restaurant for lunch (or would it be brunch?) and I attempted to not eat TOO much and failed.
After that we went to Balboa Park and it was actually rather lovely. Not rainy, not cold, but just a pretty, cloudy day. We walked around a bit and eventually did an IMAX movie about blue whales. It was fun — Dan and I hadn’t seen an IMAX movie since our kids were young. The cutest thing about it was the little child behind us who would say, “Bye bye whales” when there were whales picture and then they moved to something else. Sweet! The film was somewhat encouraging about blue whales, but of course it was also a warning: we are doing such harm to creatures on this earth.
After that it was back to our hotel for a short nap, and then it was dinner at a nearby Italian restaurant that had lovely vegan options, Civico 1845. We had a great time there, despite the doggone noise. I’m so very weary of noisy restaurants! When one has hearing loss they are so discouraging, but Mel was not happy either so it’s not just those of use who are somewhat deaf. I yearn for quiet, classy places. Still, the food was great. I would have enjoyed a bit of a treat for Kelsey since I did let the restaurant know it was her birthday, but I guess they don’t do that sort of thing. Ah well!
And yes, I sound very old when I whine like this. But guess what? I AM old! Hah!
Now we are back at our hotel. Tomorrow it’s birthday brunch (Kelsey’s 39th!) and then we head back to San Jose in the late afternoon.
