We woke, had our breakfast at Coffee O’Clock,

and got ready to take our train to the next city. Our train was to leave at 10:07, but I had been warned by several people that I could expect regional trains to be running late. Indeed, it was about 45 minutes late. Us being us, though, we were there early and had to wait around a bit. No big deal … missing a train would be a huge deal so early is good for my nerves!

The train ride was a train ride … nothing special, aside from the lovely scenery. For, I think, the third time, we never had to show our tickets to anyone. The green of the hills and the sunflower fields were just lovely, but it’s not easy to grab a shot from a moving train. Even a slower regional one. (I did try to post two photos here but the connection is bad and they wouldn’t load.)

And then we were in the city, where we stay for two nights (so only one full day).

Hello Orvieto!

We took a funicular to the old, top ‘o the hill city, and then caught a bus to get to the Duomo, per the instructions from the B&B folks. The bus ride … a small bus, mind you … was pretty amazing. Some streets are so narrow even a bus driver had to slow down and be careful! (Dan and I have noticed a lot of cars with damage on the sides: it’s no wonder, considering these streets and the sharp turns in places.)

The Duomo was astounding at first glance, and I look forward to seeing it for a longer period of time.

Our little lodging is sweet (smallest shower and bathroom yet!), with a nice patio and cool view. It even has a kitchenette with dishes and all, but we are here only a short time and I’m certain we won’t be making meals here.

As I type Dan is resting. Neither of us slept well last night and, to be honest, we have rarely had a good night’s rest. I think it just goes with the travel territory.

Silly things I do when I wake up and can’t sleep … I mean, it was 00:00 so how could I not take a screen shot, right?:

I may or may not post more later: internet here is pretty darn sketchy. I’m hoping the pictures will post … so here I go, trying to do those! If things are impossible I’ll probably just do text until we get back off this mountain top.

Looks like I can’t do another post so I’m going to attempt to write here, but no more photos for now.

We walked a bit and enjoyed a bit of lunch (to be honest I can’t remember if we’d already done that when I wrote the above stuff … and I’m too tired to try to go over the day to know). We saw some pretty lovely views and I’ll share those photos when the internet is working better. Finally, after enjoying our room a bit more, we went out for dinner. Turns out we went right next door, to the place that is owned by the same person who runs this B&B. We chose four wines (NO, not full glasses!) and then the chef prepared dishes (small plates) to go with the wines we chose. It was all just wonderful, and I’m glad we opted for that spot after walking and looking at other restaurants. The meal ended with a sweet wine and tozzetti … similar but not exactly like the Tuscan cantucci. Yum!

Okay … I can’t continue to deal with this internet connection so I will take my leave. Ciao!
