I know I told you all we were going on a trip and then I left it there.
And I still will as far as the “where” of it all. Just for a while, I promise.
Maybe after the Covid trials I’m not willing to say too much yet. In fact I’m sure that’s it.
We were supposed to go to Paris in December of 2020, to see the Ring Cycle. I had a wonderful apartment reserved that we would share with my brother and sister-in-law. My brother had gotten the tickets. I was so excited. Covid struck, but I held on to hope that things wouldn’t stay bad for so long we couldn’t go. HAH! Who knew we’d live with this … probably forever, really?
But I remain hopeful, yet cautious, about this upcoming trip. And we have our flights and now a few hotels reserved. I’m starting to puzzle over trains. (Different countries have different sites and open up reservations at different times. Some appear four months before, some two, and some, I’ve read, randomly open them up sometime!)
Speaking of our flights, that was a bit of an issue. We planned on using miles for one of us, so I first we searched using miles. I found a set of flights (we have two long flights to and fro, but also small connecting flights attached to each of those longer flights. So really two flights, but each flight with two legs.) Hooray! The entire thing worked with the number of miles Dan had. Then, while that was still up on the screen, I opened a new window to search for the same flights so we could purchase that. Hm. The flight going (with the two legs) didn’t appear as a choice. We were perplexed. I then had a little lightbulb moment: what if, instead of doing the outgoing trip as one trek, I break it up into two? Sure enough, both flights then appeared. So we finally coordinated it all and purchased our tickets.
We only discovered (after the fact) one tiny problem. Dan’s second leg of his outgoing flight isn’t in the same class as mine. Ah well. So we sit separately for that, but all the rest we are together and since that one “oops” flight is just a bit over an hour we aren’t too concerned. It’s the long flights that are so much more important to us for comfort and all.
I’m also looking at what I will take for shoes and clothing already. Yes, I do that. As I mention over and over, we do carryon only and it’s important to pack carefully. I’m excited … I love this challenge!
